In spite of the fact that the health care costs are on rise continuously, as per the recent announcement made by the Obama Administration, the beneficiaries of Medicare’s Part D plan will get benefit of reduced cost of the plan. It is special relief extended to senior citizens who cannot afford private health care services.
The part D drug benefit plan is very famous with senior people, who are used to get benefit of prescribed medicines with government subsidized health plan, which is administered privately. It is popular since it was created in the regime of George W. Bush administration.
In 2012 seniors would need to spend about $30 a month for an average Part D plan. It is claimed to be the second time lowest charge for the Plan D since its inception in 2006.
As per the analysis and the estimates made by the government actuaries, the health care cost is expected to rise at the rate of 5% till 2014. Naturally there is bound to be proportional increase in the premium of various private health insurance policies.
Obama administration is keen to further strengthen the Medicare drug benefits and remove the weaknesses in the program by the healthcare law signed by the President last year. The various health benefits offered under the law without a co-pay are widely used by the senior citizens. It is officially announced that more than 17 million Medicare beneficiaries have taken benefit of preventive services like cancer screening without a co-pay.
Though some of the representatives of the house have voiced for more privatization of the program, it is felt by many that such a move may cost more to the senior people. Many of the insurance and pharmaceutical industry leaders have expressed happiness over the implementation of the Part D plan. It is rather seen as a model of ideal health care program, which needs to be emulated and not weakened.
